Today I got a call from a good friend letting me know that he didn’t get the job, a job I know that he would have been perfect for. He’s been out of work now for 6 months. Recently I posted a help wanted gig on Craigslist to do some painting and other odd jobs and over 60 people applied in less than 12 hours. One person who responded said, “Craigslist used to be a great place to get some extra work, now anyone who can hold a paint brush says he’s an handyman.”

The state of the economy isn’t just affecting the poor, it’s affecting us all. I found out this week that a 70 year-old widow in the neighbor is losing her home of 45 years and has to be out in 14 days. These stories are enough to make you cry. But as Christians, what are we to do when we see everything around us stumbling down? How can we not lose heart? How do we keep the faith, stay positive, and continue to believe that God somehow will meet our needs and see us through these difficult times?

I feel your pain; my own pain for that matter. Yesterday I started thinking about the abundance and prosperity we have in Christ. I began to contemplate the word of God and how it relates to these current financial times. I also reflected upon my own thoughts and fears regarding money, finances, and staying afloat. As I sat there thinking, I said “Lord, please help me to write an abundance meditation for me and my brothers and sisters in Christ to help us keep our eyes on you and your promises instead of bank accounts and our circumstances!” And guess what, he did! Gosh I love that Man!

This abundance meditation, based on the Christian faith and Biblical principles, is titled Abundantly Blessed and it’s absolutely free. This is my gift to the world in an effort to lift some of that weight and restore us back to prosperity and abundance. Although none of us is immune to hardship, we can still live each day with peace and joy in our hearts.

In the midst of any circumstance, we must continue to seek and trust God and to stand upon his promises of sufficiency and abundance. We must continue to acknowledge that God is the source of our supply and that supply is unlimited. We must also continue to live by faith and not by sight, speaking those things that be not as though we were and standing in patience until we receive what God has promised. We must keep our visions strong and stay focused on our desires. We must never shrink back.

Even as the children of Israel trudged through the desert, their destination was ultimately the Promise Land. And at any point during this journey, God was there with open arms to meet their every need. If only they could have persevered just a little bit longer. If only they could have reflected on all that God had done for them already, and used those memories as gauge of what he would do in the future. If only.

If you’re finding yourself in a crisis situation, now is the time to hold up your rod, declare yourself as the victor and to ask God to part the Red Sea, open those doors, and defeat your most formible enemies: your own fears, doubts, and unbelief. You may not see change overnight, but daybreak is coming. Isn’t it so nice to know that God’s prosperity is not subject to Wall Street or the solvency of the banking industry? No, God can take the little you have and multiply it to feed a community. He can feed you with ravines. He can pay you through the mouth of a fish.
