“Draw nigh to God and He will draw nigh to you.” – James 4:8

Did you know that almost ALL truly successful people start their day praying, meditating, visualizing and clearing their negative thoughts and limiting beliefs.  They may also use this time with connect with God for guidance and studying His Word.

Whether they call it a devotional time, morning  prayer, quiet time, or a power hour, this time allows them to begin their day with power, focus, and purpose which all leads to success.

I originally created A Date with God as a daily devotional guide for myself, so I could fellowship with God and experience more of his power in my life. I use my time with God to also release heavy mental and emotional weights or burdens that I might be carrying around. During this time I also meditate on God’s Word, create an intention for the day, pray, cultivate a heart of gratitude and spend some time just dwelling in God’s presence either silently or through a guided Christian meditation.  I believe that real transformation takes place when we yield our hearts and minds to God and seek Him with all our heart, soul, and strength. (Luke 10:27)

Has your walk with God become stagnant? Do you desire to do God’s will but you’re not really sure what it is? Are you desiring a closer, more intimate walk with God but can’t figure out the steps to get you there? Or maybe you desperately desire to be used of God, to see his miracles work in your life, but instead you often feel powerless and weak in your faith.

The God we read about in the Bible is the God of miracles, power, healing, and revelation.  Everywhere that Jesus trekked there was a demonstration of his power.  Yet, why aren’t we seeing more of God’s supernatural demonstrations in our own lives as well as the churches we attend? What are we missing? What do we need in order to really do the works of Jesus?

Mark 6: 17-18 states, And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”

Could it be that the reason we are missing a real manifestation of God is our failure to be “one” with God in mind, body, and spirit?” Jesus said in John 10:30 that “I and the Father are one.” Then in John 14:10, Jesus declares, “Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.

Maybe we need to ask ourselves, “Who’s doing the work in us?”  Is it God through the power of the Holy Spirit or have we pretty much set out to do it all on our own?  Experiencing God’s power in our lives isn’t about mustering up a lot of emotion or even increasing our faith.  Unleashing God’s anointing with signs following is in direct proportion to how much space God takes up within us, literally.  If there is less of us, then there is more of God, and if more of us, then less of God. Too often we put God in these scheduled compartments like an activity on our to-do list. We may attend church regularly or participate in many ministry activities, yet in all honesty, what type of relationship are we really building with God?  Jesus in Matthew 15: 18, “These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught.”

I think we often forget that God is a spiritual being operating beyond the realm of our human understanding. Because spiritualism has been associated with the occult and demonic practices, we’re afraid to truly embrace the spiritual nature of God.  However, the Bible is filled with supernatural occurrences of God that we can’t dismiss, but that are rarely seen today. Since the fault cannot lie with God, then it must lie with us.  Jesus said, the harvest is ready, but the labors our few. Instead of being about God’s business, we are rapidly pursuing our own.  We are often immune or deaf to the spirit of God wanting to manifest himself through us, and are guilty of quenching the spirit to our own demise.

“But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.” (John 4:24) I believe it’s time for God’s people to wake up and get busy, not for building their own kingdom, but the kingdom of God! And the first place we must start is in His Presence, surrendered and bearing all before Him and making ourselves available for his use.

If we truly want to be that light that draws the unsaved to Christ, people need to see God in us. When Moses came down from the Mt. of Olives, his body glistened so much with the presence of God that the people couldn’t even look at him.  Just like Moses, the way we open ourselves to the indwelling presence of God’s Spirit and His likeness, is to spend intimate time with him.  Sunday worship service and bible study just isn’t enough.  God wants to fellowship with us.  Jesus tells us in Revelations 3:20, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.” Has God been knocking at the door of your heart, but you’ve been too busy or too self-absorbed to listen or let him in? Doesn’t your heart desire to dine with the Master, sit at his feet, and learn from Him, but you think you just can’t spare the time?

I believe we are living in the last of the last days? Satan’s plan is accelerating yet the church appears to be sleeping.  It’s time to wake up as our redemption draws near. We must draw closer to God if we are to stand in the days of temptation. While we are busy pursuing our own endeavors, the enemy continues to strengthen his strongholds and take away our freedoms.  As wages are being reduced, workloads have increased. As with the Israelites, satan will do anything he can to keep us from abiding in the presence of God.  He knows that if we spend time in God’s presence we will be changed into the very image of Christ. With Christ’s image comes power from on high. Not our power, but the very power of God living and operating through us. Therefore, he’ll find any and every distraction possible to keep you from seeking God and spending time, one-on-one, with Him.

Spending time with God through intimate praise, worship, meditation, and prayer changes us from the inside out. It’s not us, but God doing the work.   In order to experience God’s joy, peace, purpose, and fulfillment we must continually renew our minds from the contaminants and delusions of the world.  This is accomplished by meditating on Christ and his empowering teachings and eliminating (through the renewal of the Holy Spirit) toxic attitudes, thoughts, fears, and mindsets that keep us bound.

By committing, making an appointment, to spend time with God as often as possible, we learn about the transformative power of Christ’s Spirit and discover that the love, joy, provision, and fulfillment we seek comes from Him and not outer pursuits.

With a consistent Date with God, an appointment to dwell in his presence, worship his character, and meditate on his word, as well as connect with our own inner spirit, we can accomplish more and struggle less.  We can learn what it really means to give up striving in our own strength and put our trust and faith in God alone.  If you want to usher in God’s presence and power in your life, you must seek a habitation of God in your life, in fact, in your very being.  By habitation, we allow God to live in and through us as a vessel surrendered to do his will.   It’s no more I, but Christ living in me and through me.  Paul declared, I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Are you ready to make that appointment?

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Matthew 6:33)

We now have a major drought in the West and a possible Ebola epidemic at hand.  Is this the judgment of God on his people for our failure to seek Him FIRST and follow his ways? Are we now experiencing 2 Chronicles 7:13-14. If so, our only solution is to turn wholeheartedly back to God.

“If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among My people, 1and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land. “(2 Chronicles 7: 13-14)

What do other successful people say about incorporating a power hour:

John Kehoe, author of Mind Power Into the 21st Century, stated that one hour of spiritual training (meditation, silence, visualization, inspiration reading) was equivalent to 7 hours of actual working.

Trevor Blake, author of Three Simple Steps, and creator of two triple-digit multi-million dollar companies contributes his success to three simple rule, 1) take control of his negative thoughts, 2) learn to generate winning ideas through spending time in silence or meditation, and 3) create an intention and eliminating all doubt that it will happen.

Tony Robbins, author of Unlimited Power, and guru of self-empowerment, encourages anyone who wants to achieve to establish a daily power hour that includes movement, breathing, gratefulness, visualizing, speaking affirmations aloud, meditation, and prioritizing your work.

Even Jesus said in Matthews 6, “Seek ye first  the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added unto you.”

I believe a spending time with God helps us also to live with more balance as we take time each day to “just be,” which helps to break the cycle of constant activity. We can also live our lives more authentically because we take out the time to check in with ourselves and reflect upon the truest desires of our heart.

Maybe you have thought about creating a quiet time or power hour with God but weren’t sure where to get started. A Date with God will guide you through the whole process.  The thing I personally love about this devotional program is that each time I complete my power hour I feel renewed, refreshed, and empowered.

A Date with God will help you to release unnecessary baggage and begin each day restored, rejuvenating, and renewed!

  • Are you carrying around the mental and emotional residue of yesterday, last week, or even last year?
  • Have you been denying your feelings, hurts, and inner pain and brushing them aside or under the rug?
  • Are you holding onto un-forgiveness of yourself or bitterness toward others?
  • Do you yearn to break free from the weights and negative thoughts that plague your mind but don’t know how?

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”- Matthew 5:8

God wants to heal you- body, mind, and spirit. He cares so much about you that he wants to see you functioning in a healthy mental state. He loves you unconditionally and is always eager to come to your aid when you need him. He is the Divine Father and nothing makes him happier than to look after his children. He didn’t give you your unique body, mind, and spirit with no intention on helping you maintain it. He wants you to rest in his loving arms. He says in his Word, Come unto me all who are burdened and have a heavy heart and I will give you rest…Cast all your cares upon me because I care for you.

cast your cares on the lord

How Can A Date with God Enhance Your Quiet Time with God?

A Date with God  is like a daily shower for the soul. . Each day you will come bare before the Lord and allow him to cleanse, heal, and purify your heart. You can turn your burdens, fears, and cares over to God in exchange for his peace, love, and healing. The Bibles tells us to put on the “full armor of God” so we can stand against the attacks of the enemy. Spending time with God will strengthen and fortify your mind and heart and prepare you for any problems that come your way.

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” – Matthew 5:6

A Date with God Will Help You to:

#1Abide in God’s Presence and to spend time with him in silence and solitude.  In Genesis, at the cool of everyday, Adam walked in the garden with God. In John 15, Jesus said, “I am the vine and you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

#2- Renew your mind and purify your heart from worldly, fear-based, and stink ‘in thinking. 2 Corinthians 10: 5 tells us to “Cast down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ”. God puts the responsibility on us to purify our minds and cleanse our hearts of everything that will distract us, weigh us down, attack our faith, and hinder our relationship with Him.

#3- Meditate on God’s Word and hide it in your heart. Jesus said, “You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” Joshua 1:8 declares, “Keep these books of the law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”

A Date with God Can Be Used With Your Favorite Daily Devotional!

Jesus Calling

Date with God  will blend beautifully with your favorite daily devotional to help you internalize what you read and put it into practice. A Date with God takes you beyond the intellectual surface level of just reading your devotional or a series of passages to actually incorporating and helping you reflect on what these inspirational texts are personally saying to you.   If you do not have a favorite devotional then I recommend the Number #1 Best-Selling Devotional called Jesus Calling by Sarah Young. I believe this one on of the best and most profound devotionals on the planet because its very purpose is to encourage believers to seek the presence of God. Read an actual passage below:

[box title=”Jesus Calling for June 15″ box_color=”#f1f63e” title_color=”#1e1d1d” radius=”2″]“When You Approach Me in stillness and in trust, you are strengthened. You need a buffer zone of silence around you in order to focus on things that are unseen. Since I am invisible, you must not let your senses dominate your thinking. The curse of this age is over-stimulation of the senses, which blocks out awareness of the unseen world.   The tangible world still reflects My Glory, to those who have eyes that see and ears that hear. Spending time alone with Me is the best way to develop seeing eyes and hearing ears. The goal is to be aware of unseen things even as you live out your life in the visible world.”  [/box]

Are you ready to start your day with joy and strength every single morning? Are you ready to feel the true transformation of what spending time with God brings? If you have been repeatedly saying, “I need to spend more time with God,” I believe A Date with God will take your daily devotional to the next level. God is looking for those who will worship him in Spirit and in Truth, especially in these end times. Our you preparing your heart for his return?
